What Are the Benefits of a Clean Burn Recycling Center?
1. Waste Oil Storage and Heat in One Footprint
The first benefit is floor space. By combining used oil storage and a mounted furnace, the Recycling Center reduces the need for separate equipment locations. Installed dimensions vary by furnace model, with systems measuring 36 inches deep, up to 121 inches long, and 131 inches tall. Check your ceiling height before choosing a spot.
2. Simpler Installation for CB-140 to CB-3250 Furnaces
Vents, fill ports, mounting plates, brackets, and a wiring harness come preinstalled, eliminating the work of plumbing a remote tank across the shop. It pairs with four Clean Burn furnaces: the CB-140, CB-1750, CB-2500, and CB-3250, rated from 140,000 to 325,000 BTU per hour. The furnace is sold separately, with its metering pump included. Installation also requires chimney piping and electrical connections appropriate for the selected furnace.
3. A UL-Listed Used Oil Storage Tank for Cleaner Handling
Federal storage standards require any aboveground used oil storage tank at a generator's site to stay in good condition, free of visible leaks, and labeled "Used Oil." A UL-listed tank covers construction, but labeling, inspection, and spill response remain your responsibilities. Optional funnel and filter drain rack kits let technicians empty oil and used filters straight into storage, cutting down on open pans.
EPA's Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) rules generally apply to qualifying facilities with more than 1,320 gallons of aboveground oil storage capacity, counting containers that hold 55 gallons or more. Applicability also depends on whether an oil discharge could reach navigable waters or adjoining shorelines.
4. Summer Used Oil Becomes Fall Heating Fuel
During warmer months, shops can collect used oil while the furnace is idle. That stored oil becomes available as heating fuel when temperatures drop. At its rated consumption of one gallon per hour, a CB-140 could operate for approximately 215 burner hours on a full tank. Shops that drain more than the tank holds by fall still need a labeled overflow container until the furnace starts cycling.
5. Fewer Used Oil Hauler Pickups
Instead of sending every gallon of used oil to a hauler, shops can use approved oil as heating fuel. This may reduce pickup frequency and the amount of oil transported off-site. Our Clean Burn FAQ recommends generating roughly 500 to 700 gallons a year for waste-oil heat to pay off.
Is a Clean Burn Recycling Center Right for Your Shop?
Fit comes down to two questions: does your shop drain enough oil to keep the tank working, and does your building have room for the installed system? Since 1986, our Brighton team has served Colorado and eastern Wyoming as an authorized Clean Burn distributor, and our free on-site consultation answers both.
Contact our team with last year's used-oil volume and your shop's square footage, and we'll help match a furnace and Recycling Center to your space.
