Oil furnace troubleshooting tips

If you notice that your waste oil heating system isn’t working as well as it should, work your way through the following checklist.

1) Check the air filter for clogging or damage. If you notice any damage to your air filter, replace it immediately.

2) Make sure that there are no leaks in the system. Leaks will cause an increase in temperature inside the unit which may lead to overheating. Also, be sure to check if the burner has been turned on properly.

3) Ensure that all connections are tight. Loose connections could result in leakage from one part of the system to another. This would also affect the efficiency of the unit.

4) Inspect the flame sensor for malfunctioning. A faulty sensor might not be able to detect when the flame goes out. In this case, the fuel supply line should be checked as well.

5) The fan motor needs regular maintenance. It’s recommended to change the belt every two years. However, if you find any signs of wear and tear, get it replaced right away.

6) Keep track of the amount of oil used by the machine. You need to know how much oil is being consumed so that you don’t exceed the maximum capacity of the tank.

7) When using the oil pump, make sure that the pressure gauge reads zero before starting up the heater. Once started, keep checking the pressure until it reaches normal levels.

8) Use only brand name spare parts. Replacing parts with cheap or non-brand components could void the warranty of your Clean Burn unit.

9) Always follow the manufacturer's instructions while servicing the unit. Doing otherwise could put your safety at risk.

10) Never attempt to repair the unit yourself unless you are experienced enough to do so. Otherwise, you could end up causing more harm than good.

11) Be careful about cleaning the combustion chamber after each usage. Overcleaning could leave deposits that block the flow of oxygen through the system. As a result, the unit won't function correctly.

12) Don’t forget to clean the heat exchanger regularly. Dirty filters reduce the effectiveness of the cooling process.
